Lucky
The Lady Luck had always been elusive to me. Only on rare occasions had crossed my path, just a nod.
In other words, never reached me luck in competitions, prizes, raffles or other random games with financial or material reward. At most, I remember a refund of tickets or ballots Christmas lottery, a now distant in time from 13 to no avail betting surprise amounts scarce and also scarce. I remember, yes, a plastic sugar touched me in a raffle by the beach, my mother used for years to put the jam on it. I'm still considered a miracle that he survived sugar so many changes of address, for a few years ago, I could still see between the drawers in the kitchen of my mother.
This situation changed dramatically in the dinner organized by the association of friends of the Saharawi people in the Marina Baixa to raise funds for the program Holidays in Peace, a program that allows children saharahuis of refugee camps spend the summer with host families in the region.
At the beginning of dinner, I bought, almost automatically, a raffle ballots that was to be held at the end of dinner. Was time for the draw, "innocent hand" through. All we had wanted the ham ballots included in the raffle ... and touched me, yes.
I played a set of colony and Barbie camera!
on the speaker at one of my numbers, combined with the color of the ballot that was on the table in front of me, I stood proud and excited to pick up my prize. My 180 centimeters and 90 kilos crossed the spacious dining room in search of the pink box containing as exclusive gifts, also with pink as the predominant color, and on the way back to my table, and the coveted prize in my power , a round of applause and laughter accompanied me.
I was lucky, very lucky to have helped bring more to the Sahrawi children to us. If all goes well, this summer will enjoy Yussef fresh water pool, beach and sea ... and us of his company.
THANKS BARBIE!
(never thought I ever said or wrote those two words)
